Short Overview i-Mode
(4)
Mobile
Internet in Japan
Besides
NTT DoCoMo,
there are 2 other big companies (EZweb and J-Sky ), which use
WAP (HDML) and MML (which is closely related to cHTML)..
EZweb
and J-Skyweb have approximately 7 million users compared to
i-Mode's 13 million. The rival companies behind these other
technologies are IDO, J-Phone and Tu-Ka.
Although EZweb has a stunning 64 kbps transmission rate,
it is way behind NTT DoCoMo. The reasons for this might
just be that HDML is not an ideal programming language to
handle Japanese. J-Skyweb uses MML, which is
related to cHTML, and they also have a transmission rate
of approx. 9.8 kbps.
What
are the most important things to know for creating an i-Mode
site ?
i-Mode
sites are fairly easy to make if one knows about HTML and the
restrictions of i-Mode. There are 2 kinds of i-Mode sites:
official and unofficial. Unofficial i-Mode sites are not
registered with NTT DoCoMo and therefore are not listed on the
main i-Mode menu.
More
on creating i-Mode sites can be found right here.
