1. GPRS in Turkey
Turkcell is the biggest mobile communication provider in Turkey with over 6 million customers. Now, the industry giant Ericsson also provides the leading turkish company with a complete set up of a GPRS-environment: It includes the hardware, software and installation of everything needed for a GPRS network. 3. UMTS-Auction in the Netherlands
The five UMTS-Licenses in the Netherlands have been sold for a total sum of 2,7 Billion Euros (approx. 2,52 Billion US $). The licenses, which are valid for 16 years, have been bought by Deutsche Telekom, Libertel, Dutchton, Telfort and KPN Mobile. Despite the 2,7 Billions most experts agreed that the prices were much lower than expected.
4. PVT: Nokia's favorite route planning
The Germany company PVT AG has won the first prize in the "Nokia WAP Contest" for inventing "map&guide Routine Online". This software will make it possible for customers to plan any route throughout Europe . If the user goes to http://wap.ptv.de, he/she will get the exact information on when to turn and how many kilometers it is until arrival. For people with big displays (i.e. Palmtops) map graphics are also available. (www.ptv.de )
5. Choose your finance plan for your home with WAP
The German Baufinanzierung.direkt AG is an Online-broker company for real estate. For German customers this company has managed to build a WAP-homepage where they can compare and choose among many finance plans for their new homes or change their financing for old ones. This service is offered for private customers and for businesses. Baufinanzierung.direkt AG is one of the first companies world-wide to offer such a service. (WAP: www.hongkong.com )
7. GPRS in Italy
Nokia has announced that it will provide the Italian consortium Blu with their GRPS system. Blu will be able to provide their customers with a much faster transmission and a service for which one never has to dial in. Nokia also will deliver Blu with Nokia phones and a WAP gateway. (www.sohu.com )
9. WAP used in British school
Rishworth, a highschool in Halifax has started a WAP Page for students and teachers. The WAP-page is the first of its kind in England. With it, everyone can access information on school schedules, trips, sports results, teacher/student sicknesses and more. The whole site and its installation have been sponsored by a wealthy local.
