1. Mobile users sue Vodaphone/Verizon
While several studies have not proven any relation to the use of mobile
phones and brain tumors, there is a group of ten people which now are
sueing Vodaphone for 1 Billion US Dollars. The comparison to the famous
tabacco trials in which such companies as Philipp Morris were being sued is
not far off: The 10 brain-tumour victims will be represented by Peter
Angelos, who has become famous through the tabacco trials.
2. NTT DoCoMo in alliance with Hewlett-Packard
Most of the world is still wondering about when exactly 3G technology will
be launched. Nevertheless are NTT DoCoMo and Hewlett-Packard teaming up for
developing the next generation 4G technology. With the power and know-how of
these 2 companies, it should become a highly successful alliance. NTT DoCoMo
will already launch 3G for I-Mode this May.

3. WAP Forum rejects Nielson Norman Report
The official WAP Forum has rejected the popular Nielson Norman Report, which
was issued at the end of 2000 and indicated their doubts about the paper.
The report indicated and stated that WAP has no big future and may very well
disappear. The WAP Forum replied that the researchers have not worked very
diligently and they included a WAP-user survey with only 20 customer
opinions.
4. Infineon introduces the first UMTS/GMS-Chip
One of the hottest companies for stockholders all over the world has
introduced a dualmode chip for UMTS and GSM-devices. The chip, which is
called "M-GOLD" makes it possible for a device to handle both UMTS and GSM
technologies. Infineon has big plans for its wireless branch and wants to
establish a dominating position in the world of wireless chips.

5. i-Mode Boss gets voted "Leader of the Year"
Keiji Tachikawa, who is the head of NTT DoCoMo, has been voted the "Leader
of the Year 2000" by the Business Week magazine. Since Tachikawa has turned
I-Mode into one of the biggest economical successes in Japan, there are few
experts who would reject this vote.
NTT DoCoMo will introduce the first 3G network early this year. The company
is also making very substanstial plans to conquer the US and parts of Europe
with i-Mode.

6. Sprint PCS and Palm
Sprint PCS and Palm have agreed on working together to build a complete
solution for their customers. The companies are developing a
ready-to-go-kit for business people with a Palm handheld and a CDMA wireless
modem. The kit will be available in early 2001 in the entire US.

7. RadioShack and Verizon
Two of the big names in the US economy, RadioShack and Verizon announced
that they agreed on a strategic partnership. The 2 companies are planning to
set up a mini-store in most RadioShack shops for everything wireless. This
alliance could prove to be very harmful to the success of Sprint PCS, since
that company has highly profited from working together with RadioShack in
the past.
RadioShack has over 7000 stores country-wide and is the leading distributor
of wireless phones.

8. Starbucks and Microsoft
Starbucks Coffee is starting a comprehensive wireless web site for its
customers with the help of Microsoft. The services will offer MobileStar
wireless Web connections to Starbuck's customers with a few extra features.
For example will Microsoft implement a simple ordering system with which
Starbucks customers can preorder and prepay their coffee with the help of a
cell phone.
